Overview

how apply mascara : Overview : Mascara
If you are just beginning to use makeup, you may assume that applying mascara is easy. Then you give it a try and find that your eyelashes are full of black clumps. This is an indication that you are applying the mascara incorrectly. There are several tips and tricks you can follow to make sure that your mascara goes on smoothly, making you look your best.

Step 1

Buy a bottle of mascara that uses a thin short brush verses a long thick one. This type of brush is the easiest to work with and gets even the hard-to-reach corner lashes. You can buy mascara at any pharmacy, beauty store or department store.

Step 2

Decide if you want to curl your lashes. If you do, then you will want to use your eyelash curler now, before you apply the mascara.

Step 3

Twist open the mascara wand and pull up through the tube. Only pull it up once and do not bob it up and down. This will force air in the tube and cause your mascara to go bad prematurely.

Step 4

Start with your upper lashes first. Place the wand at the base of the underneath of your upper eyelashes and slowly pull up and out all the way through the tips. Your wand should be held vertically.

Step 5

Move on to the lower lashes and again hold your want vertical. Start at the base of the lower lashes and slowly move the wand down and out through the tips.

Step 6

Blink several times. This will help to make sure the ends of your eyelashes get a good coat of mascara.

Step 7

Dip the wand back in to the mascara bottle and apply a second coat if desired.

Step 8

Remove clumps either by dabbing a tissue over the lashes or by using an eyelash comb.

TIPS AND WARNINGS

  • TIP : Mascara comes in many types. You can purchase long-lasting, lengthening, thickening and even waterproof. Mascara comes in several colors. Pick one that compliments the outfit you are wearing.
  • WARNING : Don't apply your mascara until after you have already applied the eye shadow.
