Beauty TipsThe purpose of make-up is to enhance your features, hide flaws and brighten up your face so you don't look tired or worn out. Moisturizing and cleansing your skin daily are the important first steps. Choosing the right colors is important, as well. Once you know the colors that work best for you, learning how to apply the make-up is the next step.
Concealer
No one has perfect skin, and concealer helps hide those flaws. It covers acne, age lines, wrinkles and scars, as well as many surface imperfections. Dab on concealer and then feather it out. Do not rub it in, or it won't conceal the imperfections. You can go without the foundation if you use concealer. Choose a concealer that is close to your skin tone or one shade lighter. Never choose concealer that is darker than your skin tone. If you choose to use foundation, you can apply the foundation first or the concealer first. For heavy flaws, you may want a small amount of concealer, then the foundation and then a little more concealer. For minor flaws, consider putting the foundation on first; let it set for a few minutes and then add the concealer. Finish off with a translucent powder.
Mascara
Mascara frames, widens and refreshes tired-looking eyes. Black, brown-black and brown mascara are the usual basic colors. Begin by curling the eyelashes with an eyelash curler. This will open the eyes. Push the wand into the mascara bottle two to three times to loosen the mascara. Wipe the excess off with a tissue. Hold the mascara wand vertically in front of you. Beginning with the inside of the eye and moving to the outside of the eye, stroke the mascara onto the eyelashes working from the beginning of the lashes to the tip. Apply a second coat. Use the tip of the mascara wand to brush mascara onto the bottom lashes, if you wish.
Lipstick
Lipstick is the most important make-up item. If you decide to go with no make-up, at least put on a lipstick gloss. Even lip-gloss brightens your face. Lipstick shades close to your own lip color or darker are good choices. Use a matte finish during the day and opt for satin or gloss for evenings. Consider dabbing on a small amount of lip balm or petroleum jelly before adding lipstick. This will keep the lips moist. Keep the lipstick within the lip edges. After applying, blot with a tissue.
