Do You Need to Get a College Degree to Become a Model?

Overview

do need college degree become model? : Overview
Education and modeling are not two words that most people think of as synonymous, since the intelligence of models is often ridiculed. Many models begin their careers before they are even out of high school, so a college degree isn't required to be a model, but as the years go by many models find it to be a wise choice.

Life Span of a Modeling Career

The typical model has a very short career. Because aging and the emergence of fresh young faces makes it eventually difficult to find work, a model who has a college degree knows that her future will be more secure because she is educated. This relieves some of the pressure to struggle along as a model working only intermittently as time goes on.

Staying In the Business After Modeling

A good choice of degree for a model who wants to stay in the business after she stops modeling is business management, or other media relations. A model who knows the business first hand, and has a college degree, can go on to become a modeling agent or PR representative. She could also become a photographer or layout editor, the possibilities in this field are varied. After stepping from in front of the camera, a model with a college degree can become successful managing in the modeling business. One example of a successful model who continues to be a successful modeling agent is Janice Dickinson.

In Other Fields

Some models step away from the camera and leave the entire modeling field behind. With a college degree, a model can pursue whatever interests her, even if it has nothing to do with the field of entertainment. A model can be a teacher, a lawyer or a doctor. No one is committed to just one interest or career in their lifetime. For example, Cindy Crawford is now a furniture designer and has created the "Cindy Crawford Home Collection."

Sterotypes

Models absolutely are not stupid. They are simply normal people who were blessed with extraordinary looks who are part of an amazing world that operates very differently from the average person's day to day life. By keeping themselves grounded and realizing that they need something for their future, they are acting very intelligently and using their good looks to finance an education for the day when those looks fade or fall out of favor.

Using a College Degree While Modeling

Agents, managers and many other people are involved in the spending and negotiating of a model's salary. Unscrupulous people may try to take advantage of a model with no education. Having a college degree and knowing something about the business ins and outs help a model able handle her own finances, and know whether she is getting cheated. Basic accounting, and checks and balances are a must for a model. Negotiating deals and contracts does require a good lawyer, but a simple business degree goes a long way in helping a model to know exactly what she wants to get from a deal and what she should be willing to give, before a lawyer is even involved.
