Does Anyone Know How to Become a Model at Age 12?

Overview

Many children are naturally beautiful and outgoing at age 12. If you have ever wanted to become a model, it's possible that you can become one too, even at your young age. Models of all different ages and physical traits are needed in the industry. Below, you'll learn how to become a model at age 12.

Step 1

Contact local modeling agencies that specialize in placing children. Ask your parents to make you an appointment and let the representative know that you're interested in modeling. There are modeling agencies all over the country, and many in New York and Los Angeles. However, you do not have to relocate in order to be a model. You can find listings of local modeling agencies on the Internet (see Resources).

Step 2

Get some headshots taken. These photos need to be 8 X 10 and you'll need a full face shot and a profile shot at least. You'll need pictures of you smiling and also pictures of you without expression so agents can really see what you look like. Get these photos from a profession or, if you take them, make sure they're high resolution and great quality. You should get about 10 copies of each to start with.

Step 3

Prepare for an agency meeting. When you meet with agents, you'll need to speak with them away from your parents so the agents will understand that you can cope on your own. Be prepared to be open, charming and receptive to those agents. This will tell them that you're mature enough to work with individuals on sets and those behind cameras. A beautiful child doesn't have as much of a chance as a beautiful child who is very outgoing and positive. Be on your best behavior while allowing your natural charisma to come through. Consider your answers to some pretty tough questions, such as why you want to become a model and what else you want for your future.

Step 4

Send out inquiries and pictures to talent scouts and agents. You can find listings of agents on the Internet (see Resources for an example). The query should state your age and sex, what kind of disposition you possess and that you are interested in becoming a model. Include copies of your headshots as well.

Step 5

Network with other children who are models. Spend time with them, get to know them, find out who they work for and see if you can get a recommendation. You might even have your parents contact theirs in order to network more effectively. Becoming a model can take a long time. There are some children who are found instantly and others who wait years to be picked up by a modeling agency. It's important to be patient as you pursue your dream of becoming a model.

TIPS AND WARNINGS
