How Do I Apply to Become a Model?

Overview

how apply become model? : Overview :
Modeling as a profession is not all glamour and glitz. Modeling can be a fun and exciting career, but it also takes stamina, drive, determination, and usually a specific look. Learn what it takes to successfully apply to be a model and where you can go to do it.

Step 1

Always take a professional portfolio with you when you apply to any modeling agency or prospective clients. The portfolio should contain several 8x10 glossy photographs showing you in a variety of settings to demonstrate your ability to handle different types of work. The portfolio should include a detailed bio which gives a little personal background as well as any professional modeling background you may have.

Step 2

Always look your best when you present yourself to a modeling agency or a prospective employer. Be prepared to answer questions about your personal life. Many talent agencies and clients have an interest in some aspects of your private life because the image you portray will have an effect on their product. You will be representing them

Step 3

You can apply to many modeling agencies online (see resources). Start at the top and work your way down. There's no guarantee a top agency will hire you, but there's nothing to say they won't. You have nothing to lose. Some of the online agencies have form applications for you to fill out and ask you to attach a couple of photographs of yourself.

Step 4

Set up one or more online portfolios (see resources). An online portfolio allows talent scouts to view your photographs and bio. If they are interested, they will either contact you directly or through the portfolio website. Be sure to check the credentials of anyone who contacts you for modeling work through an online portfolio.

Step 5

Use a talent agency database (see resources) to get current contact information for talent agencies. Visit a talent agencies website first. Apply online if you are given the option. If there isn't an online application, check the submission guidelines to determine if you need to apply by mail or in person. Adhere to the submission guidelines, and when ample time has passed, call the agency for a follow-up or to see if you can schedule an interview. By applying to as many agencies and prospective clients as you can, and by presenting a professional package, you can achieve a successful career as a model.

TIPS AND WARNINGS

  • WARNING : Exercise caution when leaving personal information with online portfolios. Never pay for agency representation or to get a job.
