The modeling world is a hard business to break into in any media, but using the World Wide Web to gain enough experience to launch your career may be an option for you.

Step 1

Take pictures. If you can come up with the money to get professional headshots and photographs taken, all the better. However, if you cannot, try to at least use quality equipment when snapping your shots. Having a variety that showsyour versatility is a must; so use different backgrounds and settings, and then choose the very best ones to use. A few great pictures are worth more than a dozen mediocre ones.

Step 2

Launch your own website. Having an online portfolio that you can direct people to is a must when learning how to become an Internet model. Once again, if you can afford to have a professional designer start it up for you, all the better. Otherwise, look at a bunch of different modeling portfolios that are already floating around the World Wide Web, for ideas and inspiration with creating your own. Take your time uploading the pictures and designing every page until it looks right before actually publishing it online. If someone important stumbles on your site, and it's not professional looking, he may dismiss your name in any future projects that you apply for.

Step 3

Apply to as many places as you can. After you have your site published, start searching out jobs that are available online. There are so many sites that list fashion jobs, they are too numerous to list -- check the links in the Resources section below to get started. If you find a site that use models, contact the owner with a short letter that explains how you feel your style is in sync with the site, a link to your portfolio and your contact information. Ask her to keep your resume on file for any future projects that she may have.

Step 4

Ask around locally for different jobs. If you can't seem to get a break when applying online, set your sights on easier pursuits at first. Talk to small retail stores or boutiques that are just opening to see if they are in need of someone to pose for their advertisements or events. Even if you are only making a few dollars posig in the local newspaper, it's still a credit to add to your resume. Make sure to get pictures and/or video of any gig that you do to upload to your website.

Step 5

Volunteer to pose on a few websites for free as long as you can include it on your portfolio as well. There are a great many upcoming fashion designers, makeup artists, photographers and others trying to break into the beauty world like you are. Helping each other out can launch help to launch everyone's career if done right. They provide the services, such as the clothing and professional makeup application, and take the pictures. You get to add an extra gig to your portfolio and they don't have to try to budget out a modeling salary.
