How to Become a Male Model

Overview

how become male model : Overview
Men who desire to become models can choose to model clothing, or they can get into becoming specific types of models, such as fitness or underwear models. A male model can work until he is in his late 40s, depending on how good he still looks, since it is more acceptable for a man to model as he closes in on becoming middle-aged. To be a successful male model, it will require persistance and determination.

Step 1

Fit the requirements. A male model will have to be at least 5-feett-11-inches tall and weigh less than 175 pounds. The average age for starting a professional modeling career is between the ages of 18 and 25.

Step 2

Create a portfolio. In order to find work, you will need to find a photographer to take several head shots with a few full-length photos. Wear different types of clothing, such as a bathing suit and a business suit. For head shots you will want them in both color and black-and-white.

Step 3

Look for an agent to represent you. Be sure that the company is legitimate. Stick with companies that have been in business for years and have a good reputable name, such as VNY model management, located in New York. This is a vital part in becoming a successful male model, since they help promote you and find you work.

Step 4

Relocate if needed. Moving to a big city--such as New York or Los Angeles--that has a large number of successful agencies and male models can help improve your chances for work.

Step 5

Stay available. When your agent calls you for a job, it can be a photo shoot that requires you to show up within hours and you must be willing and able to get there. There may be some traveling involved, so be prepared to be on the go quite often. Also, get a passport, since some jobs will require you to fly to another country.

TIPS AND WARNINGS

  • TIP : Keep trying and do not give up on modeling if this is what you love doing. Be prepared to accept a lot of criticism.
