Step 1
Conduct a research of Kmart to see the type of models that they use. Look at their weekly sales papers, catalogs and website. For catalog and department store models, they tend to use people of different ages, genders, ethnicity, races and sizes. This is why working as a model for Kmart is so competitive. Kmart isn't just looking for the tallest or slimmest person. They want someone to look like the customers that buy their products.
Step 2
Get professional head shots done. It is also a good idea to get body shots of you wearing some of the items that Kmart carries. This will show the company you are a great fit for its products and can pull them off.
Step 3
Create a composite. The composite is like your business card. Choose five pictures to feature on the front side of the composite, with the best photo being the largest. On the back side, type your name, contact information (address, home phone, cell phone and email address) and body specifications (height, weight, clothing size). Also add the name and contact information of your agent when you get one.
Step 4
Compile a portfolio. This will further sell you to an agency or to the advertising people at Kmart. If you have modeled before, add reference information and letters of recommendation to the portfolio. Make sure that all of the photos that you put in the portfolio are 8 x 10.

Obtain an agent. Agents can get you into doors that you can't get in yourself. Some agents may know about casting calls from Kmart that aren't public information. They also have contacts that could possibly get you in. Let the agent know that you are interested in modeling for Kmart.
Step 6
Keep your eyes open for casting calls from Kmart. The company posts these things in entertainment magazines and resources. It also has started to post casting calls on websites such as Craigslist.com.
