Overview

how become model maternity clothes : Overview
All sorts of clothes need to be modeled, including maternity clothes. This is a specialty market and models can only work for a limited period of time while they are in their second and third trimesters of pregnancy. Usually you become a maternity model because you have prior modeling experience and as a pregnant woman would like to continue to work. Maternity modeling can be a great experience and way of making money for the baby on the way.

Step 1

Have headshots taken before you get pregnant when you still look like your vibrant, lively self. Many women gain weight in their face while pregnant, but you don't want that to show in your photos. This may seem odd but it's unfortunately part of the business and bias that comes with the territory. They want "pretty" pregnant women. You still have to look your best even if you don't feel your best.

Step 2

Inform your agent of your pregnancy. Discuss things with them and let them know what you would like to do regarding being sent out for work and how far into the pregnancy you would like to continue. Decide whether or not you would be comfortable with partial nudity, parts covered, because a lot of pregnancy print work likes to show off the female form during this stage. Also decide whether or not you would like to do just print or would be willing to do commercials as well.

Step 3

Update your resume and remove the "weight" category if you have height and weight listed. This will change throughout your pregnancy and seeing a specific number may confuse a casting director as they look at your photos. Instead list your due date or estimated due date.

Step 4

Find a cute, comfortable outfit that you will be able to wear throughout most of your pregnancy. Take a side profile photo of your body every month to update your look. Have a friend or family member with a good camera take this. Then have several prints made; four inch by six inch or five inch by seven inch color prints. Staple one to each headshot and resume you give your agent to submit for work. This will show casting directors what you look like and the current state of your body. Update these photos monthly.

Step 5

Have your agent submit you for work when breakdowns for pregnant women come up. Often casting directors will post breakdowns looking for pregnant women between six to nine months pregnant or four to five months pregnant. Your agent will determine if you qualify for this breakdown and submit your photos and resume to the casting director. If the casting director likes how you look, she will call your agent and schedule an interview or "go see." Sometimes there are open calls for pregnant women for catalog shoots, but it is rare, most work is done through agency submission breakdowns.

Step 6

Wear colorful and fun but form fitting clothing when going on auditions or "go sees." Be proud to show off your belly bump. Stay positive and upbeat, personality counts when auditioning as a photographer or director wants to work with fun, personable individuals.
