Overview
Many companies that sell toothpaste, mouthwash, lipstick and other items targeted to the mouth, lips and teeth hire mouth models to appear in their television, print or online ads. Professionals such as dentists and orthodontists also hire mouth models to use in advertising their services. If you have an attractive smile, then you could have a career as a mouth model.
Step 1
Mouth models should have perfect, white teeth and a big, bright smile. While you can buy over-the-counter teeth whiteners, consider having a dentist professionally whiten your teeth. You also should have any imperfections corrected.
Step 2
Hire a photographer to take some appealing photos for your portfolio. Have him take full head shots as well as mouth shots. Most photos should show your smile, but you also should include non-smiling and varying facial poses that showcase your mouth in different ways.
Step 3
Create your modeling composite. You can do this yourself or have one completed for you. It should consist of five to seven of your best photos printed in the landscape setting on 8- by 11 1/2-inch paper. Include different mouth poses as well as a full head shot. Include your name, contact information and age on the composite sheet.
Step 4
Find an agent. Write a cover letter explaining that you would like to be a mouth model. You will send this, along with your composite sheet, to various prospective agents. You can find agent listings in the phone book or online. Interested agents typically will get back to you within four to 12 weeks of receiving your letter.
Step 5
Attend open casting calls to find jobs. These listings appear in newspapers and online. Once you have an agent, you can go to private casting calls, but open ones are held in cities nationwide. This helps you to get work while you wait for an agent to contact you. It also helps you build a portfolio.
TIPS AND WARNINGS
- TIP : Visit your dentist regularly.
