Overview
Being a shoe model can be a source of extra income. Like any other type of modeling, shoe modeling is a very competitive field, but it's also great for women who aren't extremely tall and thin. Shoe models actually do more than have pictures of their feet taken. They appear in shoe fashion shows that require them to stand for long periods. Shoe models also pose for print ads that appear in women's magazines.
Step 1
Get a pedicure. Your feet must look their best. This means your toenails should be polished in either a natural color or a french manicure. You need to remove all excess dry skin. You also should use a lot of lotion so that your feet always look smooth. Putting lotion on your feet at night and then putting socks on will help keep your feet moisturized.
Step 2
Have photos taken. Since you will not be using numerous high-fashion shots to obtain a job in shoe modeling, you can use any local photography studio to take the photos you need. Bring a few outfits and coordinating shoes to your shoot. Make sure you have shoes that flatter your feet. Open-toed shoes and heels are a must because that's what most clients look for. Have the photographer take some full body shots as well as photos just of your feet.
Step 3
Make a modeling composite sheet. With basic computer skills, you can print a modeling composite sheet using five to seven neatly arranged photos on a 8.5- by 11-inch sheet of paper. For a more professional look, you can have the sheet printed professionally at any printing or office supply store. Print it in the landscape setting, and include at least one full body shot as well as photos of your feet in different shoes. You should also include your name, contact information, age, height, weight, clothes size and shoe size.
Step 4
Find an agent. You can find agent listings online using websites like Modeling Advice and Bob Pardue Photography. Create a cover letter explaining that you would like to be a shoe model, and mail it to prospective agencies along with a copy of your composite sheet. Normally, interested agents will contact you within four to 12 weeks after they have received your information.
Step 5
Read modeling and trade publications. They frequently have ads for open casting calls. Submit your composite sheet to any ads looking for shoe models. You also can use online casting networks like Now Casting and BackStage, which allow you to book work on your own while you are still looking for an agent.
