How Can I Become a Model Scout?

Overview

how can become model scout? : Overview
A model scout has one of the most important jobs in the modeling and fashion world. These are the people responsible for discovering the next Heidi, Gisele, Cindy or Tyra. Model scouts spend hours watching people and picking out men and women who have what it takes to succeed as a model. Scouts get a set amount of money every time they track down a potential model. Those who want to become a model should get as much experience in this world as possible.

Step 1

Learn the difference between a real job offer and a scam job offer. Just like some modeling agencies scam potential models, they also scam model scouts. You need to be aware of that fact before you agree to sign up and work for the company.

Step 2

Realize that what looks good in real life doesn't necessarily translate in front of the camera. Modeling agencies have specific types of models they want and those aren't always the girls and guys who look the best. You need to know how to spot models that will look good on camera and in front of the camera.

Step 3

Make sure that you can handle the lifestyle of a model scout. It's not all glamor and fun; it's hard work, too. You'll only get paid when the models you find are booked for jobs and used by photographers. That means you might need to take a second job or cut back on the amount of money you need to spend.

Step 4

Work in a variety of fields in the modeling world, doing as many different things as possible. Modeling agencies like scouts that understand how the behind-the-scenes world of modeling works. Spend some time working as an assistant or receptionist and in other areas to gain experience.

Step 5

Apply for modeling scout jobs at reputable modeling agencies. Elite, Ford and Wilhemina are some of the top modeling agencies in the world, but there are just as many lesser-known agencies that book models on shoots every day. You can often send your resume right to an email address listed on the agency's website.

TIPS AND WARNINGS

  • TIP : Consider working as a model yourself. There are many scouts who got their start by working in the industry as a lesser known model.
  • WARNING : Never send money to anyone who claims you need to pay a fee to work as a scout for their company. If it was a legitimate job offer, they'd be paying you money and not the other way around.
