Overview
Tucson, Arizona, isn't the center of the modeling world, but aspiring model talent can still make their modeling dreams come true if they have the proper requirements, drive and attitude. Future models have to exercise caution and due care when they are interacting with agencies to ensure their personal safety, but it is possible to find a reputable talent agency in Tucson.
The Facts
Future models in Tucson, Arizona, have to be able to attract the interest of a modeling agency and the talent scouts of that agency. Models have to have the necessary height requirements (minimum of 5 feet 8 inches), good hygiene, clean skin with good tones and the ability to wear clothing well. Agencies will work with new talent to help them develop their modeling skills. One agency, Tucson Modeling Group, develops their new models and teaches them how to move, wear clothing and project confidence into the camera. See Resources.

Benefits
Receiving mentoring and training from a reputable agency in Tucson will help young models develop self-confidence and a good portfolio. One model with the Tucson Modeling Group advises future models to find a good agency and take advantage of all the training offered. Megan also said, "You have to have a major market agency, have exposure to the real world and agents, put together a strong portfolio and have a good attitude and personality." Megan began working with the Tucson Modeling Group in 2007; she was 16 at the time she gave this interview.
Misconceptions
Future models want to work in New York or Europe; very few models achieve this, but can have a lucrative career working in the United States. Tucson is a rapidly growing area of the Southwest, with many resources available to people wanting to establish a modeling career.
Models don't have to be teenagers or college students; if someone has a unique "look" he or she can become a model. If, for instance, a modeling agency schedules a shoot in the desert around Tucson, they have a wide degree of latitude in the type of model they hire. They can hire the cowboy, the Native American or the weathered horse wrangler.
Risk Factors
Those who have the dream of becoming a model have to be wary of scam artists out to take money them; young teenage girls have to be very careful that they don't participate in a "photo shoot" that becomes a sexual assault. Young women also have to investigate the photographers and agents to make sure they won't be required to pose nude or have their photos published in a porn magazine or Web site.
To this end, potential models must make inquiries of the modeling agencies they are interested in---contact the Tucson Better Business Bureau at (520) 888-5353 and ask if there have been any complaints lodged against any modeling agencies they are considering working with.
