Kids' Modeling Tips

kids' modeling tips : :
Kids' modeling is a dream of many kids and their parents. Kid models of all ages are used in catalog, runway and other kinds of fashion modeling. Some think any cute kid can model, but there are other factors that make up certain kids right for modeling. Modeling is a competitive field with hundreds of kids going after the same gigs. Kids who want to model will have a better chance at success by following a few basic tips.

Personality

Shy Kid

Shy KidTake into account the kid's personality when considering modeling. Kid modeling involves travel, changes, rejection, patience and the ability to take instruction well. Kids who are timid or don't adapt well to new situations may not be right for modeling. Kid modeling has deeper requirements then just being cute.

Agents

Agents who require payment upfront are unnecessary. A true agent will sign with a kid model after judging his chances for success. An agent will find assignments for kid models and be paid by commission after his clients are paid for a modeling gig.

Auditions

Auditioning

AuditioningWhile some auditions are open calls, some can be meetings between the client and the child and his parent or guardian. Take recent photos, dress well and be prompt. Answer questions honestly and find out exactly what will be expected of the child should he get the modeling job. For young children, take extra clothes, diapers if applicable and food and something to drink. Quiet toys for babies also may be helpful while waiting.

Photos

Professional Kid Models

Professional Kid ModelsInvest in professional photos. Kids are cute in any photo, but a polished look is required for modeling. Professional photographers will know how to use the best poses, looks and lighting to present kids in modeling photos. One exception is baby models. Babies and young toddlers will not need photos, because they change too rapidly in short periods of time.

Research

Learn everything there is to know about kids' modeling and modeling in general. Talk to other kid models and parents. Compare agencies and the kinds of modeling available. Read modeling trade magazines and keep a folder with important information to use for future modeling auditions.

Finding Gigs

Kid Catalog Models

Kid Catalog ModelsKid models are more likely to find the first gigs locally in department stores and local catalogs or sales ads. Send photos to local agents, and keep an eye out for new gigs. Once a kid model has broken into local modeling, build a portfolio and start sending copies to modeling agencies and firms in other areas.

Scams

Beware of modeling scouts who offer an opportunity in exchange for money. These are usually scams or a modeling school in disguise, not an actual modeling gig.
