Modeling TipsModeling is a career that many people dream of. It can offer excitement, travel, perks and money. There is a misconception, however, that all it takes is a beautiful or handsome face. Much more is needed, such as hard work and a good business sense. In addition, there are the auditions that start the process of getting any modeling job. The competition is stiff. In some cases there may be hundreds of hopefuls competing for the same modeling job. Knowing what to do at an audition is important, if modeling is a chosen career.
Appearance
Avoid big earringsAt a modeling audition, the total appearance matters, not just the face. Wear clothing that fits well. While extreme business attire is not necessary, a potential model still needs to look professional. Clothes that reveal too much will cost jobs. Clothes that are too big can hide the body. Keep jewelry minimal, especially avoiding clunky necklaces or big earrings, as these will distract the focus from facial features.
Attitude
Modeling scouts are looking for people who have confidence. Show a positive attitude. Smile and let confidence show through. Be polite, attentive and listen to instructions. Don't be haughty or boisterous. You don't want a bad attitude noticed instead of you.
Clock Watching
Be on timeClock watchers are not appreciated in an audition. There will likely be a large crowd of hopefuls, and it may take a while before being seen. Be patient and accept the fact that long waits may happen. Plan the day accordingly. The only time the clock should be watched is to show up at the audition on time or even a few minutes early. Be prepared for a wait, but also be ready at a moment's notice.
Manners
Lose the gumDon't forget to use manners. Remember to say thank you and please. Check bad habits on the way in and avoid swearing, smoking and gum chewing. The job will go to someone else if all the scouts remember is the way you popped your gum.
Be Prepared
Know as much as possible before the audition about the requirements for that specific audition and the resulting type of modeling job. Take any makeup, brushes, and so forth that you may need to touch up while waiting to be seen. Since it could be a long day, take a couple of energy bars and some bottled water in your purse, if possible. Wear attractive, yet comfortable shoes, since you may be on your feet a while at times.
Portfolio
Always take a professional portfolio of your best photos and a resume of any previous work, including references. Keep them updated routinely and take extra copies to leave with the modeling scouts. Make sure the photos show a variety of poses and clothing.
