Overview
Sears is not a big name in fashion, but it still employs models. Sears regularly hires the all American-type who can promote their image of providing quality products for the average person. While the fashion world generally seeks models of a certain age and build, Sears uses women, men and children of different ages and sizes. Since the company is in Chicago, living nearby is a plus when trying to make it as a Sears model. In this article, you will learn how to become a model for Sears.
Step 1
Get professional head and body shots done. Go to a professional photographer and explain what you are trying to get accomplished. If they know the photos are to be sent in for a modeling job, they can better direct you when shooting. You don't have to pay a ton of money to get photos---mall photographers are fine. Purchase the extra disk option, in which the photos are put on a disk for you.
Step 2
Compile your model's composite. You can do this on your computer with graphic-design software, or ask the photographer to do it for you. On the composite, you should at least five different photos of you, with the best one as the largest. In the corner of the composite, add your contact information and your specs (weight, height, shoe size, etc.).
Step 3
Make a portfolio. This portfolio is like your personal brochure to get Sears's attention. Add large prints of yourself and any reference letters from other modeling jobs you have had. You need to have more pictures in the portfolio than you did in the composite. If you haven't had a modeling job before, add more pictures with different types of poses.
Step 4
Find an agent who has connections in Chicago. Use your composite and portfolio to win her over. This is a good way to get your foot in the door at Sears.
TIPS AND WARNINGS
- TIP : Don't wear high-fashion clothing for your head and body shots. You want to look more wholesome than fierce. Wear something you are likely to see in a Sears catalog.
Do not sign with an agent who charges you upfront. Reputable agents take a fee only after they have booked you a job.
If you don't want to go through an agent, try contacting Sears' advertising department. You can always pitch yourself straight to the advertising executives.
